Please contact me

As strange as this may sound, Martin, I really need for you to contact me through something ohter than email. Perhaps the note system at Deviant Art? I'm TNBrat there also...and I have you on my watch list there so you can click on people watching you to find me.

I don't mind talking about this here, but not sure you would. To sumerize, though I've gotten an email from you, and one from me to me at the same time today...both had strange attachments...I was asleep at the time, 12:14pm so I know I didn't send the one from me to me...One of the letters read something like "Thank you for using our software" & the other was something like "Read the instructions first"....

I've since had computer problems resulting in 2 restore operations...then a few hours ago, I got the exact same 2 emails again, except for the time.

I'm asking that you NOT email me to discuss this becasue of the issues...

Sorry, for such a strange post, I thought about emailing you, but right now I'm staying away from my email...
Thanks,
TNBrat!

It's virus e-mails, that are self replicating. Someone you know has been infected and their system, unkown to them, is replicating the virus and sending it out to people in their adress books, and it spoofs the senders adress using someone else's adress from the same book. If you opened the attatchments, you have been infected also.

Well, that bites....yeah I opened the first 2, but I don't have an address book at all, because my computer crashed last week from something totally different. After I opened them I had to do 2 system restores and then I updated my virus and personal firewall software, and haven't had any problems since, so that makes me wonder if it isn't Martin that has the virus, because I've exchanged email with him about permissions for use of the weather icons from Stardock for DX....Of course that was months ago, but like I said I don't have an address book since the crash...And the emails were "from" him specifically...

What I don't understand is how I sent the one from me to me....see I only have 1 actual email address...but like if I emailed you, you wouldn't see it, because I use a mail alias as my primary email address...so what happens is the alias has to go through the other to get to me....the email from me to me was from my alias to my "real" address?

Anyway, thanks for the information Hippy...I've not seen Martin yet, perhaps someone could get him the message...If you think it's necessary, that is...

Oh, and I wrote down the names of the attachments, is ther anything I could do with them that may help...like should I report them somewhere?

I would suggest you download AVG Free and or another EMAIL Virus scanner program.
Run it and try to see if it can remove the virus.

If its a Virus AVG should find it. If its MAL-WARE I'd suggest getting the new MS Anit-Spyware or Ad-Aware or Spy-bot S&D.

Just some suggestions.

Oh, thank you, but my system is clean, of that I'm sure! I've always been more than careful, and like I said as soon as I realized there was something strang going on I went on the defence....LOL The worst part was that a few days ago I had a tech issue while trying update my Stardock software so I sent them an email...that's why when I saw the email was fom Martin I didn't think twice about opening it...and where as I'm always concerned about attachments unless I know the person...I though it may be the updates I needed...or instructions...

Someone who has both martin's and your addresses in their addressbook is virused up. Martin is probably getting the same emails. I believe the emails that are from you to you will show where they originate from....at least the server they're being sent from in the header info.

Hey, I just got another one...from Martin again...just an FYI...Off to run a full system scan....Isn't anyone else getting this?..I don't suppose I'm the only one in his address book...or that Martin and I are the only people in some elses' address book?

I got one too. Deleted & moved on.

I've almost gotten to the point of Requesting all email have a private key (as simple as last name, first name in the subject line).

I'm going to here to do something soon.

TN Brat...it's a spoof email...and since you openned the attachments you will MOST likely be infected.

Your only solution is possibly an online scanner, as anything within your system will and MUST be suspect.

http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/ makes a good start.....being a simple executable to catch the most common/prevalent nasties...

No, I've taken care of it all...I didn't open it until after it was scanned and removed. The top image in the screen shot shows the email itself and if you read the attachment line it says "Norton Anti Virus Deleted"
Norton stopped the email from even being downloaded to my computer until after it was cleaned...
on Feb 01, 2005
Simplest thing to do is to NEVER accept ANY attachment...no matter who it is from...unless it is pre-organized...
on Feb 01, 2005
And always assume you are 'dirty'....even 'if' Norton claims to have got it.....nothing beats being doubly sure...

My question is why are these dirrectly following something I've done here?
The first set came right after I sent for some help from Stardock?

And this one came right after I activated my personal website here?

Each seemed to go along with what was going on...I needed help the first time and wanted to update my Stardock software and the emails said "Thanks for using our software" & "Please read the instructions"

And the one in the screen shot says
"You are now made active"

Is it possible that someone has hacked into things here...because it's rather strange that the emails seem to go right along with what I've done.?
